I have a massive spreadsheet open on my laptop right now. I am comparing the shipping costs for twelve different variations of a brass cabinet knob. I have been looking at this spreadsheet for three days and I still have not ordered anything.
No Gut Jobs I do not do major structural renovations. I bought a house that was built in the early two thousands and every single room looked exactly like a beige cardboard box. I am not ripping out the plumbing or moving load bearing walls to create an open concept. I hate drywall dust. I just want the house to look like it has some actual architectural personality.
The Trim Obsession Most of my projects involve cutting wood. I measure everything four times because I am terrified of wasting expensive materials. I still cut the angles backward on the baseboards at least twice a month. I spend a lot of time filling my mistakes with wood putty and hoping the heavy primer hides the gaps.
Finding the Shortcuts I try to figure out what actually makes a room look finished without spending ten thousand dollars. I test different brands of cabinet paint to see which ones actually level out and which ones leave terrible brush marks. I write down the exact dimensions of every lighting fixture I buy so I do not accidentally hang a tiny chandelier over a massive dining table again.
I am currently trying to figure out how to hide the terrible orange tone of my hallway floors without having to rent a heavy drum sander.
